Happy birthday to producer Dino De Laurentiis. His movies played endlessly on HBO in the 80’s and they forever warped my childhood. We love you Dino! Here are two of CCT’s favorite Dino productions, King Kong (1976) and Flash Gordon (1980).
Here’s the fanboy reworking of the upcoming disaster porn epic 2012.
Absurd plot? Check. Absurd dialog? Check. Terrible American actors? Check. Terrible dubbing of Spanish actors pretending to be American? Check.
Slugs: The Movie(1988) is undoubtedly a Juan Piquer Simon film. Fans of the Spanish director will love this gory tale of angry slugs that (thanks to toxic waste) start attacking the citizens of a sleepy New England town. The gore effects are pretty outrageous and the script is ridiculous from start to finish, so we don’t hesitate to reccomend it. One word of caution though, don’t eat anything while watching it, you’ll thank us later.
Though not as trashy and exploitative as the title might imply, Satan in High Heels (1962) is still a must-see for fans of Cool Cinema Trash. Meg Myles plays the title bad girl who works her way from carnival stripper to nightclub sensation. The cast also includes Grayson Hall as the lesbian proprietress of the chi-chi nightclub, director Del Tenney as Grayson’s fey assistant and the Barbie-esque Sabrina as herself. Below is Meg belting out the song that makes her the toast of New York, “Female of the Species”.
Mae West, Timothy Dalton and The Captain & Tennille. Be afraid. Be VERY afraid.
Ah yes, Kevin Maher… I can relate. Kong ‘76 is the most awesome ‘guy in an ape suit’ movie ever made (please note I didn’t say it was the best version of Kong ever made. Come on. I’m not stupid)
