In honor of Irwin Allen’s birthday, we’ll be posting Hanna-Barbera’s early 70’s animated version of Lost in Space. This proposed pilot (based rather loosely on the classic sci-fi show) ran as an ABC Saturday Superstar Movie. Fans of classic animation will recognize several familiar voices from the Hanna-Barbera company of actors as well as familiar stock music cues (themes from the Superfriends are featured heavily). In this first installment, Commander Craig Robinson, his younger brother Link and space geologist Deena Carmichael are headed on a mission to Saturn. Accompanying them on the Jupiter 2 rocket are Dr. Zachary Smith (voiced by the irrepressible Jonathan Harris) and the Robot (not voiced by Dick Tufeld). They encounter a meteor shower and become… Lost in Space.

Today, in the final installment of Superargo and the Faceless Giants, Prof. Wond makes a break for it and the good guys chase him down in the films anticlimactic finale (a handy pit of quicksand anyone?)
