Did Hitler like the ‘76 version of King Kong?
Ah yes, Kevin Maher… I can relate. Kong ‘76 is the most awesome ‘guy in an ape suit’ movie ever made (please note I didn’t say it was the best version of Kong ever made. Come on. I’m not stupid)

While searching on YouTube for clips of Dino DeLaurentiis films, I stumbled across the extended scenes from King Kong (1976). When Kong made its network TV debut it was shown in two parts over two consecutive evenings. Extra footage was needed to fill out the running time so scenes that didn’t make the theatrical cut where edited into the film. Below are the “extended” versions of several scenes with the final clip (Kong’s attack on the power station) being unique to the television version.
Today is Dino De Laurentiis’ birthday. De Laurentiis has produced a few good movies in his day(he was honored with the Thalberg Award at the 2001 Academy Awards) but his bad movies far out-weigh the good ones. In their 1980 book The Golden Turkey Awards Harry and Michael Medved aptly dubbed him “Dino De Horrendous”. His passion for big stars and big budgets resulted in some of the most enjoyably awful films of the 70’s and 80’s. Below are the trailers for Orca (1977) Flash Gordon (1980) and his legendary remake of King Kong (1976).

I just love, LOVE, LOVE Dino DeLaurentiis’ wacky 1977 Jaws homage, Orca.
