An actor with extensive TV credits (seriously, just check out his IMDB page), Burke is probably best remembered for his role as Lyon Burke in the 1968 camp classic Valley of the Dolls.

Ricardo Montalban 1920 – 2009

Ricardo Montalban passed away yesterday at the age of 88. Montalban got his start as an MGM contract player, essaying many “Latin Lover” roles, but is remembered by most as Mr. Roarke from TVs Fantasy Islandor as Captain Kirk’s nemesis Kahn in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn (1982). TCM will run a day-long tribute in his honor on Friday the 23rd. Below is the trailer for Madame X(1966) in which the death of Montalban’s character initiates Lana Turner’s downward spiral.

In Memoriam: John Phillip Law

Actor John Phillip Law passed away earlier this week. He was 70. For more about his impact on the world of cinema, read the full CCT reviews for The Love Machine (1971) and Tarzan the Ape Man (1981). Suzanne Pleshette 1937 – 2008

Actress Suzanne Pleshette passed away earlier this month just a few weeks shy of her seventy-first birthday. Today she will posthumously receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Fondly remembered for her roles on television’s The Bob Newhart Show and in Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds (1963), Pleshette also starred in a few films that could be qualified as Cool Cinema Trash. If you have the opportunity, I suggest you check out the sublimely soapy Rome Adventure (1962) in which she co-stars with future husband Troy Donahue. If Pleshette as a nyphomanical suburbanite is more to your liking, then you can’t go wrong with A Rage to Live (1965). Though neither is yet available on DVD, they occasionally air on cable. Check your local listings.
