Fleischer is best remembered for directing such genre classics as 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954), Fantastic Voyage (1966) and Soylent Green (1974). Lovers of truly awful cinema know that he was also at the helm of the southern trash epic Mandingo (1975), the Neil Diamond remake of The Jazz Singer (1980) and the joyfully derivative Amityville 3-D (1983). Below is the trailer for Fleischer’s Conan-inspired Red Sonja (1985), in which Arnold Schwarzenegger’s acting is positively Oscar worthy compared to Brigitte Nielsen’s wooden line-readings.
It’s criminal that the nut-house melodrama The Cobweb (1955) isn’t available on DVD. In it, Grahame plays the wife of loony-bin doctor Richard Widmark who has given the okay for the patients to design new drapes for the library. Grahame has her own ideas about the curtains, leading to an all-star battle about the drapes! Brilliant!
Blood Freak (1972) Warning: A movie about a murderous, drug-addicted, monster turkey may sound like fun… well, don’t say we didn’t warn you.
